“Queer cut” is a term that dates from when Worm and I were fourteen or so. In those days, we had to get our hair cut every few months, whenever our step dads would see us and order us to the barbershop, despite our best efforts to avoid them (step dads and barbershops) entirely. An old fart of a barber in Van Nuys coined the term--it referred to any haircut that wasn’t a spazzy “regular boys cut.” The song percolated for several months, then came out in a blast of righteous hatred, all from a night that Worm and I went to the Masque in Hollywood in ’77 or early ’78. We drove up in Worm’s ’61 Chrysler and some loitering spazz with a swastika tee-shirt and some kind of multicolored variation on the regular boys cut said our hair was too long. But here’s the real joke: a few months after we recorded the song, I got a haircut for the first time in ten years, and whenever I sang “Queercut” after that in concert (with sometimes multicolored short hair), I suspect my bandmates were all snickering at me. Worm certainly gave me a ration of shit for it.
Dead Cross, Retox, and Qui members dish out subversive hardcore with an indignant smirk; come for the riffs, stay for the synth experiments. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 31, 2024
Knockout debut from a Buffalo, New York-based hardcore band who like their riffs sick, their drums fast, and their choruses sticky-sweet. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 28, 2024
